Prices in Zimbabwe are quoted in USD and move with panel and lithium battery import costs. A complete, professionally installed system — panels, inverter, battery, mounting, cabling, breakers and labour — typically lands in these ranges:

Where the money actually goes

Batteries are the single biggest line item — usually 40-50% of the bill. Lithium (LiFePO4) costs more upfront than lead-acid but delivers 6-10 years of daily cycling instead of 2-3, so the cost per usable kilowatt-hour is far lower. Panels are the cheapest component per watt they have ever been, so paying for cheap panels and skimping on the inverter is a false economy.

Labour and materials — mounting rails, DC isolators, surge protection, correctly rated cable, earthing — are around 10-15% of a good quote. Quotes that show a suspiciously low installation charge usually recover it by using undersized cable or skipping protection devices, and that is where fires start.

A trustworthy Zimbabwean installer gives you a line-itemised quote, not a single number. Insist on seeing brand and model for the inverter and battery, the panel wattage and count, warranty periods in writing, and whether the price includes a certificate of compliance.

Geysers, electric stoves, welders and borehole pumps are the expensive loads; moving your geyser to a solar geyser or timer is often cheaper than sizing your battery bank to cover it.
